During their vow renewal ceremony, the justice of the peace asked Dave, left, and Clara Rooney to recall what drew them together so many years ago. “She asked us to think about what we went through in 50 years together,” said Clara. Their renewal of vows was “very nice, very meaningful,” said Dave. “It was beautiful,”
Clara and Dave Rooney of Padua continued celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary during a trip to Hawaii in February of this year. They were surprised with a beachfront renewal of vows ceremony one morning, arranged by their kids and Deb Streese of Carefree Travel.
Dave and Clara Rooney added to their 50th anniversary celebrations of 2023 by taking a trip to Hawaii in February 2024. Neither they nor any of their children had been to Hawaii before. Two of their five kids were not able to make it because of timing and busy schedules. Enjoying the renewal of vows during the trip were (from left): Lisa, Anita, Dave, Clara and Darron.
Many people like Dave and Clara Rooney of Padua, never envisioned celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary, all those years ago when they became husband and wife. But they indeed reached that milestone in 2023. They celebrated last year with a Mass at the church where they were married and a big party with 400-500 of their family members and friends.
“We had an open house in the reception hall at the bar (Padua Pub),” said Dave. “The kids’ friends tended bar. We already made the food and neighbor ladies served, so we and our family could celebrate.”
